Story Notes: When the dragons ruled - intro

Building out ideas for a story through random notes

Intro note ideas

The smell of salt in the air near the fluttering sound of the leaves in the old grove trees. A deer silently walks through the pasture in front of the forest nibbling on the grass in a careful balance of dance and beast. 

In the distance smoke rises from a near by town swallowing up the sky in a darkness. Birds lay on the branches above singing songs of hope in contrast to the distant horror of a burning town.

A whisp of wind is felt from a hovering shadow as it descends on its prize in fulfillment of its notorious task. His master will reward him greatly. 

The deer spooks as it hears rustling in the pasture as a group of people are running low to the ground.

Notes and summary

The idea with this is I’ m trying to set the stage of an ongoing series based in the years 400-500s in country of Ireland. The story will follow a family that I’m working out but will introduce within the above transition. The hardest part it trying to start the intro and get the story going without just dropping people into a random adventure.

The scene would try and setup the peace away from a town that just got attacked from dragon(s) with the looming growth of attacks on the horizon. A family is running way from the nearby town to try and make it to safety.

I hope to continue writing other ideas as I have them.
